For more than 30 years since the start of armed conflict in the 1970`s, the indigenous Jumma peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts were subjected to military rule and oppression, massacres and land grabbing by settlers. The Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord (CHT Peace Accord) signed by the government and the indigenous peoples in December 1997 promised support for returnee refugees, autonomy, resolution of land dispute, military measures needed to protect the legitimate rights of the Jumma peoples. But more than a decade after the accord, hardly any of promises have been fulfilled. Nonetheless, the ruling Awami League party that came power in 2009 has committed to full implementation of the peace accord in its election manifesto. Now is the time for all of us in the international community to bolster efforts to solve the CHT issue. Please sign the following appeal and send a message of peace to the Bangladeshgovernment.
This campaign is being held simultaneously worldwide. The signatures and messages to the prime minister will be delivered in English. Please feel free to write a message in English, Japanese or Bengali. Our volunteers will translate Japanese messages into English
